Addiction Treatment

Addiction Treatment

The first step of recovery has already started

Has substance use or sex become a larger part of your life than you want it to be?  Have you tried to cut back only to find you are back to it again? Your family and friends have told you that they are worried about you? Are you finding that you don’t know who you are outside of the context of your substance or addictive behavior?  If so, you could be dealing with an addiction.

Addiction is a complex condition, a brain disease that is manifested by compulsive substance use and/or compulsive behavior despite harmful consequence. This can manifest as substance abuse and/or process addictions (behaviors). Addiction is a relationship where we substitute our healthier relationships with a substance and/or behavior. If you are suffering with a dual diagnosis: addiction may be a symptom of a mental health problem.

Substance use/abuse can be a result of not knowing how to deal with another issue such as depression or anxiety. And sometimes, in the case of our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters dealing with internalized homophobia can cause heavy substance use. Counseling can help us learn how to cope with our specific issues. Then, we are better equipped to make the changes that we want to make with our addiction issues.

Ready to get life back on track?

We provide outpatient addictions treatment based on harm reduction to get you to overcome the dysfunction that your addiction is causing you.

Our approach on treating addiction is a collaborative one

The stigma towards substance abuse/additions lead society to treat this challenge as a moral problem. For that reason, at Orlando Counseling & Therapy Group, we provide a non-judgmental environment that recognizes that recovery is a difficult, yet a possible option. Understanding that every client is an individual, we utilize collaborative strategies like Motivational Interviewing to assist our clients with their journey to change. Our spirit of collaboration seeks to guide (not push) the client to identify their personal motivations to embark on recovery. This allows the client to set goals that they understand as personal and realistic. Substance abuse/addiction is a life-long issue. Hence, we provide guidance and tools to prepare and support the client throughout the journey.

We are here to walk with you through the Stage of Change.

Pre-contemplation is a characterized by denial. However, the consequences that stem from substance abuse/addiction awaken us into contemplation. At this point, we are ready to recognize that there is a problem, and we are more willing to seek help. Contemplation is the stage that characterized by ambivalence about change. Thus, during contemplation we seek to challenge faulty thinking that stems from our relationship with addictions. At Orlando Counseling & Therapy Group, our clients can process and resolve their ambivalence to move into preparation and subsequent the subsequent action stage of change. Through these stages of change, the client is able to become the protagonist of their life.

Where do we go from here?

Addiction treatment in an outpatient setting could be the first step in your recovery process. If you are not in need of detox treatment, dealing with substance or process addictions such as sexual addiction, can be dealt with outpatient therapy.  The therapists at Orlando Counseling & Therapy Group have been successfully working with clients with addiction treatment issues for years. We use motivational interviewing to help clients move to a place of authentic change. Then, help clients plan out how they are going to execute their recovery process that is unique to them. We also use a harm reduction model of addiction treatment. This helps you stay focused on functioning levels and not the stigma of a specific substance diagnosis.
