Frequently Asked Questions

The Basics

What is therapy like?

  • At Orlando Counseling and Group, we believe that you are the expert on you and we are here to help you make the change that you want to make in your live. We are not here to tell you what to do. But we do help you figure out what it is that you authentically want to do about the issue you are dealing with. We work to create a welcoming, non-judgement environment where you can share how you feel. We will partner together to bring about the change that you want to make by exploring your thoughts and ideas about you.

What type of clients do you see?
  • Orlando Counseling and Therapist Group’s therapists see many different type of clients, including individuals, couples, LGBTQ+ individuals, and non-traditional couples. Please view our therapist’s biography pages, to see if there is a specific therapists who works with individuals with your area of need.  If you are still unsure if one of our therapist can assist you, please call for a free consultation.
How long with therapy last?
  • That depends on the issues that you are looking to work on. Some therapy can be brief and we work together to solve a problem and clients move on in a matter on months. While others establish long term relationships with their therapists. In these therapeutic relationships, clients can come and go as treatment dictates. But if you have a good working rapport with your therapist that therapeutic relationship can last for years. At Orlando Counseling and Therapy Group we work to address the client’s needs no matter what the time frame.

The Details

How long and how often are sessions?

  • 50 minutes per session.
  • Generally, our therapists see clients once a week at the beginning of therapy and scale back to every other week as treatment progresses. This is something that is determined by your needs.

  When do you offer sessions?

  • Each therapist at Orlando Counseling & Therapy Group can work with your schedule to make a time that will work for you or give you a referral to one of the other therapist that can better suit your schedule.  Generally speaking, our therapists can provide sessions during the day, afternoons, or early evenings.

Do you take my insurance?

  • Orlando Counseling and Therapy Group are out of network providers for most insurance companies. Clients can call their insurance company and ask “how do I get reimbursed for going to an out of network licensed mental health counselor?” They will explain to you how to get reimbursed and your therapist at Orlando Counseling and Therapy Group will do the necessary paperwork to get you reimbursed as much as your insurance company will pay. This tends to be around what co-pays would be.

What do you have to report to my insurance and how does that effect me?

  • Insurance companies only get basic information from us such as your diagnosis, treatment dates, and rates. But if you request reimbursement they can request more detailed treatment records such as progress notes. Be aware that by using insurance, you now have a mental health diagnosis on your medical record that can effect future coverage, the cost of coverage, and other areas where your medical record can be review such as getting life insurance or employment. Another downfall of getting reimbursed is that your insurance company can determine how many treatments are covered without ever talking to you about your treatment.

What if I have to cancel or forget my appointment?

  • Please give a 24 hour notice, and your therapist will be happy to reschedule with you.
  • Cancellations made within 24 hours of scheduled appointment are charged in full.
  • No calling and no showing results in full payment.
